SHARON K. THOMAS (Born Sharon K. Pikaart) grew up in Grand Rapids Michigan and moved to the San Diego area in the early 1980’s. As a child Sharon loved to draw and sketch, but didn't begin to fully develop her artistic talent until she was invited to join an artist's co-op group where she shared studio space with several skilled artists from her hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Their positive influence motivated her to expand her potential as an artist, and encouraged her to join the Grand Valley Artists Association. Her first paintings and exhibitions were under the name Sharon K. Hoffius. After moving to the San Diego area in 1983, Sharon joined Foothills Art Association in La Mesa, California, where she has served on the Board of Directors, 3rd Vice President, Publicity Chairman, Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, and is currently serving as Recording Secretary, and Editor of the monthly newsletter. She also participated in the public art Banner project for the city of Chula Vista. The event was sponsored by the California Port Authority, which commissioned paintings that are currently displayed along the Bay front in Chula Vista. The banners are scheduled to remain on display for an indefinite period of time. Chula Vista and El Cajon are suburban communities of the San Diego Metropolitan area. Sharon holds a Certificate of Competency in Desktop Publishing which she combines with her love of photography, utilizing both as tools in her artwork. Many of her compositions are from her own photographs taken on trips to Italy, Australia, England, Mexico and throughout the United States. Her paintings hang in private collections throughout the country. Sharon has taught art classes for developmentally disabled adults, and drawing classes for children. Sharon works in Oil, Watercolor, Acrylic, Pen & Ink, Color Pencil and Graphite Pencil. It is her wish to capture moments in time that are timeless; To capture a visual image of the beauty of the world around us; the people of our time, The Missions, the Parks and Harbors; the ever-changing City, the backcountry; The grandeur of San Diego, and the World beyond.
